FAQ

What is The Mountain?

The Mountain is an independent book shop specializing in art, photography, architecture, design and whatever else catches our eye. No coffee, no romance, no 'merch' — just new books of notable design, most of which you won't find anywhere else in Arizona, or on Amazon. (We have cool notebooks too.)

Where is The Mountain?

The Mountain is currently housed in an unassuming adobe structure within the larger arts compound at 325 W. University — former site of the Dry River Collective (2005-2012). Enter through the archway between Main & Alder and look for The Mountain sign, painted by J.Otto, above our door. We also maintain an outpost at the Center for Creative Photography.

Who is The Mountain?

The Mountain is commandeered by Mike Slack — artist, editor, designer, co-founder of The Ice Plant, and author of several photobooks — who sources the books from around the world and captains the ship (assisted by first mate Heather Free). Employed in the business of books since 1992, Slack also now manages U.S. sales for Idea Books.

When can I visit The Mountain?

The Mountain is open Fridays and Saturdays from 12-6pm, and by appointment.
